„THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVIZED“

SOLO EXHIBITION 2024 @ OVIERZIG, Bremen

Bremen-born photographer Stefan Guido Schmidt is exhibiting his photographs and short films in his hometown for the first time. His photographs have been featured in numerous exhibitions both in Germany and abroad, as well as in several art magazines and publications (VISION ASIA, DIGITAL TEMPLE, GERMANY'S BEST PHOTOGRAPHERS, etc.). Over the past 20 years, the artist has made a name for himself primarily through his sensual black-and-white photographs, which pay homage to natural, feminine beauty.

The images and videos shown in this exhibition, "THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED," were created during his travels around the world. In his series “BRAVE NEW YORK,” created in 2012 and previously shown in Berlin at the PAN AM LOUNGE (2014) and in his most recent exhibition in Athens (BOOZE KOOPERATIVA) in 2022, he captures a dystopian world in his photographs, revealing the increasing loss of interpersonal communication in our time. It depicts an imaginary society moving apathetically and as if remotely controlled within a matrix of menacing architecture under the guise of a seemingly controlling power.

Furthermore, the artist presents the short film “GHOSTS,” created in 2021, in this exhibition, capturing a completely different, highly magical and enchanting world. Over a year and a half, the artist captured short, almost magical sequences of light plays, reflections, and movements, which are fused with music to create a highly poetic work. The title is intended to draw our attention to the possibility that this subtle magic might be understood as communication from another dimension. A way in which the "spirit in all things" reveals itself and takes shape in this world.
